Food aid

Take action

A bill was just introduced to reform food aid in the House. If enacted, this bill could feed MORE people, MORE quickly, for LESS money. AND it has bipartisan support.

So what's the catch? This bill needs immediate support – and more attention – if it hopes to pass.

Send a message to your representatives and ask them to cosponsor this legislation today.

INSTRUCTIONS: We've included a sample letter to make things a bit easier, but please feel free to change the copy and put it in your own words. Here are a few additional points you can use:

  • This bill eliminates burdensome and outdated food aid requirements, while building flexibility, efficiency and cost effective food aid.
  • One important piece of this bill? It allows the use of U.S. funds to purchase local and regionally produced food products to relieve hunger.
  • This bill also eliminates the costly cargo preference, which requires all food aid to be shipped on U.S. flagged vessels. Without the ability to ship food at the best prices and the best shipping availability, food aid becomes more expensive and is often delayed.
