British Columbia: It's time to lead

Right now, British Columbia could become the first province to require oil, gas and mining companies to reveal what they pay to governments.

Why does this matter? Because when citizens can see what gets paid, they can make sure that their governments are spending money on saving lives, not lining the pockets of the powerful.

Send a message to BC Minister of Finance Michael de Jong right now and tell him it’s time for BC to lead!

Here are some points to include in your message if you're stuck on what to say.

      • This is British Columbia’s chance to lead: no province has formally agreed to put a rule in place that will require oil, gas and mining companies to reveal what they pay to governments.
      • This rule will allow citizens to make sure that their government is spending money on lifesaving vaccines and schools, rather than financing the luxurious lifestyles of corrupt officials.
      • Canada’s two largest mining associations – comprised of more than 1300 companies and organizations – fully support this idea, and the national government endorses it as well. But the provinces must take action for this rule to become a reality.
