Our Learning Lab offers remote training supported by our tried-and-tested lessons, and in conjunction with The Art of Activism book and workbook. The course is made up of six meetings, very small class sizes, discussions, and exercises, as well as hands-on activities you will do on your own throughout the week to increase your understanding of the practice of artistic activism.
The Learning Labs are facilitated by an impressive, international team of Workshop Leaders. Designed to be conversational, fun, and dynamic, the weekly sessions are adaptable, practical, and relevant to people at all levels of experience.

What Happens in a Learning Lab?
With The Art of Activism book as our guide, we’ll spend six weeks together connecting, strategizing, brainstorming and being inspired to take our activism to the next level. Workshop leaders will also be available for “community hours” throughout your Learning Lab to mentor you and offer guidance on artistic activism projects you may be working on or wish to start.
Here’s a breakdown of what we’ll cover each week:
Week 1:
- Why anyone can be an artistic activist
- Unpacking our baggage
Week 2:
- Examples of artistic activism
- Flexing our creative muscles
Week 3:
- The Artistic Activism Process Model – a method to the madness
- What lessons can we learn from history
Week 4:
- The power of C/culture
- How to connect and change minds (really)
Week 5:
- Overcoming fear of change
- How to craft strong goals, objectives, strategies and tactics
Week 6:
- Staying true to our values
- Achieving utopia
Participants should plan to spend approximately two hours for reading and workbook exercises outside of the two-hour Learning Lab sessions.
Workshop Leaders offer optional office hours to help answer questions or go further with a topic. While Learning Labs are presented in English, our Workshop Leaders can meet in other languages. Keyti speaks English, French, and Wolof. Sasha speaks Belarusian, and Russian. Rebecca speaks Spanish, but is more fluent in Spanglish.
Applying
All are welcome to apply. Class sizes are limited, but sessions will be run throughout the year. Special consideration is given to those working in organizations supporting U.S. democracy.
Cost
The Center for Artistic Activism is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to making all of our programs and resources accessible for all. To do that, we rely on the support of our community. For Learning Labs, the suggested donation range is $150-$500. However, no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds. Seriously. We understand that not everyone can make a donation, but for those who can, we will ask you to consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Center at the end of your session. We know you will find great value in this experience. And we believe there is enough wealth, privilege, and altruism in our world for some participants to donate more so that others can access this program and keep it going!
Each Learning Lab costs about $6,000 to run. So the mid-range to the higher end of our suggested donation range reflects the actual cost of the class.

Meet Our Workshop Leaders
TRACY BROWN is an Independent Curator, Artivist (Artistic Activist) and Capacity Building Consultant. Tracy is a seasoned visual artist and community worker who was born in San Francisco and has worked in communities of color all over the world.
REBECCA CRAWFORD MUÑOZ is a writer, storyteller and facilitator who thrives most in the in-between spaces. Born with an insatiable curiosity and trained in public health, she’s worked around the world to flip power structures that hold communities back from social change.
SASHA YURI has ten years of experience as a feminist educator, researcher and cultural worker. She has developed and led various film & media training programmes, courses and workshops for NGOs, activists, representatives of LGBTQI+, migrant and refugee communities and persons with disabilities.
KEYTI is based in Senegal. He is a trainer and mentor at the Center for Artistic Activism. Over the past three years, he has been a Lead Mentor on Regional Creative Hubs, a massive project to combat corruption through Art Action Academies in the West Balkans and West Africa.
