The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, will host and lead the work process of the G7 trade ministers until 31 December 2022.

Here, G7 trade ministers will discuss current issues and challenges in the area of trade policy. The UK re-initiated this trade minister process under its G7 Presidency in 2021.

Germany is pursuing the following work priorities under the so-called “G7 Trade Track”:

• Strengthening multilateralism through global trade policy
• Contribution of trade to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic
• Digital and sustainable transformation of the global trading system
• Ensuring rules-based free trade that takes into account fair social, environmental and human rights standards
• Creating open, fair, resilient and sustainable supply chains

In addition to these priorities, the trade ministers will also continue to pursue items from the previous G7 agenda. These include issues of fairness and a level playing field in global trade as well as the reform and further development of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Under the German G7 Presidency, the trade ministers met

• virtually on 23 March 2022 and
• in Neuhardenberg on 14/15 September 2022.
