President Cyril Ramaphosa has secured the political support of the majority of his party as a delay in the vote for his impeachment process gives him respite for a week.
After a tense meeting of the ANC's national executive committee (NEC) on Monday, during which some of Ramaphosa's emotionally-charged opponents argued for him to be censured, the party decided to use its majority in Parliament to reject a Section 89 report that found Ramaphosa had a case to answer on the Phala Phala burglary scandal.
