Team Canada can be the global leader in the battle against extreme poverty. The Captain says, "Canada is back," and has rallied a new lineup to bring to the global arena. To score victories over extreme poverty, the Canadian government needs a consistent game plan of programs, partnerships, and financial support that can be a win for the world's poorest and most vulnerable.
Key goals Canada can achieve so the world's poorest countries can join the team and pull themselves out of poverty:
- Fund global nutrition at the Rio Nutrition for Growth Summit;
- Fight HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria by leading the renewal of the Global Fund team;
- and recommit to reversing recent cuts to accountable and verifiable overseas development assistance.
Under your direction, Canada can be a global leader in the fight against extreme poverty. With your new team, we can score a decisive hat trick of policy leadership in 2016 to demonstrate Canada's strength and influence in helping the world's poorest and most vulnerable people.
As you set the priorities for Budget 2016 and beyond, please consider the importance of suporting strong funding for global nutrition initiatives, global health efforts, and other programs that fight extreme poverty and combat preventable disease.
