The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is working on a rule that will require oil, gas and mining companies to publish what they pay to governments. This kind of transparency can provide citizens in the world's poorest countries with the information they need to ensure that government revenue ends up in hospitals and schools and not the pockets of the criminal and corrupt. But some extractive companies want to stop this rule. Tell the SEC to issue a strong rule that puts an end to these secret deals.
Please issue a strong final rule – no exemptions, no loopholes – on Section 1504 of the Dodd–Frank Act. It’s what the American people expect, it’s what investors need, and it’s what the world’s poorest demand.
