For the past twenty-one years, the US has played an historic role in the fight against the global HIV/AIDS epidemic thanks to the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). With 26 million lives saved from HIV/AIDS, PEPFAR is a program and a legacy all Americans can be proud of.

As one of my elected leaders, I hope you will stand with your constituents in protecting funding for critical US foreign assistance programs in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

One such program that needs your backing is the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). For the past two decades, PEPFAR has been a beacon of hope for millions of people fighting HIV/AIDS. Through its unparalleled and irreplaceable support, US investment in PEPFAR has helped save over 26 million people and given women, children, and families the opportunity to thrive. But there is still more work to be done. AIDS remains a crisis, claiming almost 2,000 lives per day.

Since its inception in 2003, Republicans and Democrats in Congress and the White House have worked together to advance the global fight to end HIV/AIDS. In fact, leaders of both parties have steadfastly increased funding for PEPFAR because of its accountability, innovation, and proven results.

I urge you to uphold this bipartisan legacy and commit to reauthorizing and fully funding PEPFAR moving forward. Together, we can end the HIV/AIDS epidemic for good.
