Three years of war have pushed Sudan beyond the breaking point. Millions of families are displaced and more than half the country is facing hunger. The crisis is still unfolding, and people need action now.

I am writing to urge you to take action on the crisis in Sudan.

As you likely know, three years of civil war have displaced more than 14 million people and left more than half the country facing food insecurity. The UN has called it the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

I was pleased to see that Congress has taken meaningful steps in recent days to address the conflict. The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed the U.S. Engagement in Sudanese Peace Act (H.R. 1939) with broad bipartisan support and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed the PEACE in Sudan Act (S. 4726). Both bills would strengthen sanctions authority and promote international cooperation to end the conflict.

I urge you to work with your colleagues to negotiate a single, final bill and bring it to the floor for a vote. A political solution to this conflict will require strong American leadership. The people of Sudan cannot afford further delay.
