I am writing to urge you to take action on the crisis in Sudan and the critical role Congress has to play in holding U.S. corporations accountable for business ties that may fuel atrocities abroad. The Co-Chairs of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), have already taken steps to urge major U.S. companies to reconsider business relationships with entities tied to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing credible reports of the UAE’s support for armed actors responsible for mass atrocities in Sudan.

However, letters alone are not a substitute for action. Sudan is facing one of the gravest humanitarian catastrophes in the world today, and the U.S. government and independent investigations have found that both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Congress must use every tool it has at its disposal, including hearings, public pressure, legislation, to push American companies to disengage from partnerships that risk enabling or obscuring these abuses.
