EU Parliamentarians: Deliver on your promise to people living in poverty
The clock is ticking. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are meeting in a few days to cast an important vote - one that could set the direction on how the EU can pay for its priorities.
But this proposal lacks a critical element. Only 5.5% of Europe's spending goes to development finance outside the continent. This is not enough to tackle the global crises we're facing, from the climate emergency to conflicts, inflation and pandemics.
We need to make sure that any new funds from European Member States – also known as 'own resources' – will be used to support low-income countries, on the frontlines of the poverty and climate crises.
A handful of MEPs could really help move the needle in the right direction - but only if we demand action. Ahead of the vote, make sure they hear us: send them a tweet calling for any new 'own resources' to be used to support low-income countries. It will only take a minute.
