Piano Mattei Petition

Since the start of the new legislature, the Meloni government has promised a Piano Mattei – a far-reaching plan to bring in a new era of cooperation between Italy and the African continent. The Premier has pledged that this partnership will be founded on respect. 

But we have not yet seen any concrete measures. 

We are the ONE campaign’s Italian Youth Ambassadors, a group of 35 young activists advocating for a world where everyone can live a life of dignity and opportunity. 

Now is the time for Italy to demonstrate its ability to be a good partner for Africa, one that listens and responds to the continent's concerns. We are calling on Italy's leaders to ensure the plan includes these five recommendations: 

1. Counter the climate emergency by doubling funding for climate adaptation and making the Italian Climate Fund operational as soon as possible;

2. Combat inequality by increasing funding for international cooperation by modernizing multilateral development banks and tripling World Bank loans and grants by 2030;

3. Investing in human development by maintaining ambitious commitments to strengthen global health systems by combating preventable diseases;

4. Recognize the diversity of voices by including them at decision-making tables; and

5. Support international cooperation, keeping its promise to contribute 0.7 percent of its gross national income to development funding.
