How much do you know about HIV/AIDS?
The global AIDS response is a model for what’s possible when political will and funding are consistently directed toward a global health crisis. Two decades ago, HIV/AIDS was killing over 4,000 people every day. Today, over 29.8 million people are accessing lifesaving treatment and AIDS deaths have been cut by 69% since their peak in 2004.
But that well earned progress is at risk of backsliding, and challenges like climate change, pandemics like COVID-19, and food insecurity pose risks to the fight against AIDS. The global AIDS epidemic is still growing at an alarming pace–1.3 million people were newly infected with HIV globally in 2022.
